New Traffic Rules on A84/A85 Near Loch Lubnaig: What You Need to Know
Starting this summer, motorists traveling the A84/A85 near Loch Lubnaig will notice new restrictions aimed at improving safety and preventing road damage. The Scottish Ministers have announced a Temporary Clearway Order that will be in effect from June 30 to September 30, 2025.
What’s Changing?
The new regulation prohibits vehicles from stopping on a specified 4.14-kilometre stretch of the A84/A85, unless directed by a police officer. This includes both the main road and the adjacent verges. The area affected stretches from 3.04 kilometres north of the A821 at Kilmahog to 1.64 kilometres north of 'The Cabin' car park.
Why the Change?
The measure is being introduced due to concerns about public safety and potential damage to the road, which are not related to construction work. Authorities believe that restricting stopping will mitigate these risks.
Are There Any Exceptions?
Yes, there are several important exemptions:
- Vehicles stopped by law or due to uncontrollable circumstances.
- Emergency service vehicles (fire brigade, ambulance, police, or coastguard).
- Postal delivery and local authority refuse collection vehicles.
- Public service buses and taxis picking up or dropping off passengers.
- Vehicles involved in specific operations like construction, road maintenance, or clearing obstructions.
Plan Your Journey
Drivers should plan their trips accordingly and be mindful of the new restrictions to avoid penalties. Alternative routes should be considered if stopping is necessary, and it’s advisable to keep an eye out for police officers who may provide directives during this period.
Stay informed and travel safely this summer as these measures take place to ensure everyone’s safety on the roads.
