A New Speed Limit in Biggar: A702 Trunk Road Gets a Temporary 20mph Zone
Attention drivers! If you're cruising through Biggar on the A702, a new speed restriction is coming your way. Starting from June 30, 2025, the Scottish Ministers have mandated a temporary 20mph speed limit on a specific stretch of this busy trunk road. Here's what you need to know.
What's Happening?
From June 30, 2025, until December 30, 2026, a section of the A702 Trunk Road in Biggar will have a speed limit reduced to 20mph. This change aims to enhance public safety and prevent potential damage to the road.
Why the Change?
The decision is driven by concerns over the likelihood of danger to the public and potential road damage, not related to any ongoing roadworks. The Scottish Ministers have assessed the situation and believe this temporary speed limit will mitigate these risks.
Where Exactly?
The targeted section runs from 115 metres west of the B7016 Broughton Road junction to 55 metres southwest of Loaningdale Avenue. This is a 288-metre stretch where the new speed limit will be enforced.
Are There Exemptions?
Yes, a couple of exemptions apply:
- Special Forces vehicles under certain conditions.
- Vehicles used for coastguard emergency purposes.
Plan Your Journey
With this change, drivers are encouraged to plan their routes accordingly and be mindful of the new speed restrictions. Alternative routes are available, and authorities suggest considering them to avoid any inconvenience.
Stay safe and drive responsibly as you navigate through Biggar!
