Temporary Road Closure Alert: B979 Trunk Road in Stonehaven
Heads up, Stonehaven drivers! A section of the B979 Trunk Road will be temporarily closed next month. Here’s everything you need to know to navigate the changes smoothly.
What’s Happening?
From May 6 to May 10, 2025, a stretch of the B979 will be off-limits to traffic. This is due to essential roadworks aimed at improving the area’s infrastructure.
Where Exactly?
The closure affects:
-
Northbound Carriageway: Starting 10 metres north of the Stonehaven Junction southbound merge slip road, extending to the Stonehaven Roundabout entry—about 210 metres in total.
-
Southbound Carriageway: Starting 25 metres south of the Stonehaven Junction northbound merge slip road, also extending to the Stonehaven Roundabout entry—approximately 220 metres long.
Who Can Still Use the Road?
While most vehicles will need to find alternative routes, there are exceptions:
- Emergency response vehicles (fire brigade, ambulance, police, coastguard)
- Vehicles directly involved in the roadworks
Why This Matters
This temporary closure is part of necessary works to ensure the road remains safe and efficient for all users. The Scottish Ministers have planned these works thoughtfully, considering alternative routes to minimize disruption.
Plan Ahead
Make sure to map out your alternative routes in advance and allow extra travel time during this period. Stay tuned for traffic signs and local updates to guide you through the changes.
For more information, keep an eye on local transport updates or consult the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2016 for detailed signage guidance.
Remember, a little preparation can go a long way in avoiding travel headaches. Safe travels, everyone!
