New Speed Limits on Fraserburgh Roads: What You Need to Know
Starting 22nd September 2025, drivers in Fraserburgh will need to ease off the gas pedal as a new speed restriction comes into play. The Scottish Ministers have issued a temporary 20mph speed limit on a specific stretch of the M9/A90/M90 Trunk Road, aimed at enhancing safety due to potential public danger or road damage—unrelated to any ongoing roadworks.
Where and When?
The affected area runs from 88 metres north of the Kessock Road intersection to 35 metres north of Hanover Street, covering a distance of just over a kilometre. This measure will be in effect until 22nd March 2027, providing ample time for drivers to adjust to the new pace.
Why the Change?
This decision stems from concerns over safety and road integrity. By reducing the speed limit, the Scottish Ministers aim to mitigate potential hazards on this busy trunk road, ensuring a safer environment for all road users.
Who is Exempt?
Not every vehicle will be subject to this restriction. Exemptions include:
- Special Forces vehicles as specified in the Road Traffic Exemptions (Special Forces) Regulations 2011.
- Emergency vehicles used for coastguard purposes.
What Should Drivers Do?
As the speed restriction will be clearly marked with traffic signs, drivers should remain vigilant and adhere to the posted limits to avoid penalties. With the new limit in place, it’s crucial to plan your journeys accordingly, allowing extra time to reach your destination safely.
