Starting 1st August 2025, motorists will need to slow down on a particular stretch of the A84/A85 Trunk Road in Strathyre. The Scottish Government has issued a temporary speed restriction order, reducing the speed limit to 20 mph. This measure is set to remain in effect until 1st February 2027.

Where Does This Apply?

The speed restriction covers a section of the A84/A85 from 571 metres north to 218 metres south of Old Station Court, spanning approximately 789 metres.

Why the Change?

The new speed limit is a precautionary measure aimed at enhancing public safety and preventing potential road damage. The decision was made under the powers of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, with the Scottish Ministers recognizing the potential risks to travelers and the road itself.

Are There Any Exemptions?

Yes, certain vehicles are exempt from this restriction:

  • Special Forces vehicles operating under specific regulations.
  • Emergency vehicles responding to coastguard duties.

What Drivers Should Know

The reduced speed will be clearly marked with traffic signs displaying the maximum speed limit. All drivers using this stretch of the road must adhere to the 20 mph limit or risk penalties.

Plan Your Journey

While alternative routes have been considered, drivers are encouraged to plan ahead and allow extra travel time when passing through this area. The temporary speed limit aims to ensure safety for all road users while addressing potential hazards effectively.
