Temporary 50mph Speed Limit Introduced on A4042 Trunk Road, Torfaen

Starting 4th August 2025, a new temporary speed limit of 50 miles per hour will be enforced on specific sections of the A4042 trunk road, between Pont-y-pŵl Roundabout and Court Farm Roundabout in Torfaen. This decision, made by the Welsh Ministers — the traffic authority for this road — aims to mitigate potential public safety hazards.

Key Details:

  • Effective Date: The order comes into effect on 4th August 2025.
  • Duration: The temporary speed limit will be in place for up to 12 months.
  • Exemptions: Certain vehicles are exempt, including those used for military purposes or by emergency services under specific conditions.

Affected Sections:

  1. Northbound: From 36 metres south of Pont-y-pŵl Roundabout to the north-eastern junction of the roundabout, extending 216 metres north-east.
  2. Southbound: From 45 metres south of the south-eastern junction of Court Farm Roundabout to the north-eastern junction of Pont-y-pŵl Roundabout.
  3. Entire Pont-y-pŵl Roundabout: The speed limit applies to the entire circular carriageway.

Implementation:

Traffic signs will indicate when and where the new speed limit applies. During its enforcement, any existing statutory speed restrictions on these sections will be temporarily lifted.
