Attention drivers! New speed restrictions are coming to the A85 Trunk Road in Methven. A recent order from the Scottish Ministers, set to take effect on July 21, 2025, introduces temporary speed limits aimed at enhancing road safety and preventing potential damage.
Why the Change?
Authorities have determined that certain stretches of the A85 pose a risk to public safety or could suffer serious damage if not regulated. These changes are considered necessary to mitigate these risks, and alternative routes have been evaluated to minimize disruption.
What Are the New Speed Limits?

20 mph Zone: A specific section of the A85, stretching from 178 metres east of Culdeesland Road to 157 metres west of James Street, will be under a 20 mph speed limit. This segment spans approximately 1.037 kilometres.

40 mph Zone: Another section, extending from 157 metres west of James Street to 507 metres west of the same point, will have a 40 mph speed limit. This area covers about 350 metres.
These adjustments will be clearly signposted with traffic signs in accordance with existing regulations.
Who is Exempt?
Notably, the restrictions do not apply to:
- Special forces vehicles operating under specific conditions.
- Vehicles engaged in emergency coastguard missions.
Duration of the Order
This order will be in effect from July 21, 2025, until January 21, 2027. During this period, compliance is mandatory to ensure safety and avoid penalties.
