Overview

Starting July 19, 2025, a new temporary speed limit of 50 miles per hour (mph) will be enforced on a section of the A4042 trunk road. This decision, taken by the Welsh Ministers, aims to enhance road safety.

Affected Route

The speed restriction applies to the stretch of the A4042 from just south of its junction with Lôn Croes-y-pant to its intersection with the Mamheilad Roundabout.

Exemptions

Certain vehicles are exempt from this speed limit. These include:

  • Vehicles used for purposes outlined in Section 87 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
  • Military vehicles driven by individuals under the command of the Crown’s armed forces, specifically those trained for high-speed driving in emergency responses or training exercises.

Signage

The speed limit will only be enforced when traffic signs indicating the restriction are displayed.

Temporary Suspension of Other Speed Limits

During the enforcement of this temporary order, any existing statutory speed limits on this section of the road will be temporarily suspended.

Duration

This order is temporary and will last no longer than 12 months from the start date.
