New Temporary Speed Limit on A470: What You Need to Know

The Welsh Government has introduced a new temporary speed limit of 50 miles per hour on specific sections of the A470. This measure aims to enhance public safety due to potential risks identified along the route.

Key Details:

  • Exempt Vehicles: The restriction does not apply to certain exempt vehicles, including those used for military purposes or emergency responses, as detailed in the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

  • Enforcement: The speed limit is enforceable only when indicated by traffic signs along the road.

  • Current Regulations: Any existing speed regulations on these sections of the A470 are temporarily suspended while the new limit is in effect.

Affected Sections:

  1. Coryton Interchange to 2.1 km North: The northern-bound carriageway from the Coryton Interchange northwards to a point 2.1 kilometers beyond the interchange.

  2. Coryton Interchange Slip Road: The northbound slip road, stretching from 120 meters north of Coryton Roundabout to its junction with the main northbound carriageway.

  3. Ffynnon Taf Interchange Slip Road: The northbound slip road, extending from 105 meters north of its junction with the A4054 to its junction with the main northbound carriageway.

This temporary order has been signed off by Nicci Hunter, Business Team Leader for the Welsh Government, under the authority of the Cabinet Secretary for Transport and North Wales.
