Big Changes Coming to Belfast’s Glengall Street: New Traffic and Parking Rules
Attention, Belfast drivers! Starting 1st August 2025, major changes are coming to Glengall Street as part of a new traffic regulation order by Northern Ireland’s Department for Infrastructure. This move aims to streamline parking, improve traffic flow, and update loading zones on one of Belfast's bustling streets.
What’s Changing?
-
Parking and Waiting Restrictions:
- New No-Waiting Zones: Two new sections on the north side of Glengall Street will now have no waiting at any time zones. These are located 15 metres east and 46.6 metres east of the junction with Durham Street, extending for 17.2 metres and 39.6 metres, respectively.
- Old Restrictions Removed: Previous restrictions (items 73 to 76) relating to no waiting on Glengall Street’s north side are now revoked.
-
Loading Bays:
- New Loading Bays: Two new loading bays will be introduced on the north side, located 32.6 metres and 86.2 metres east of Durham Street, allowing businesses to load and unload conveniently.
-
Taxi Stand Removal:
- Bye-bye Taxi Stand: The existing taxi stand on the north side of Glengall Street is being removed, as part of the updates to Motor Hackney By-Laws.
Penalties and Enforcement
- Penalty Charges: Watch out! A £90 penalty charge will be enforced for any vehicle violating these new orders. So, make sure you’re parked legally.
- Signage: New traffic signs indicating these changes will be installed soon, so keep an eye out and follow the updated rules.
Why These Changes?
The Department for Infrastructure has put these changes in place to ensure that Glengall Street remains a smooth-flowing thoroughfare while accommodating the needs of businesses and maintaining safety for all road users.
Make sure to update your travel plans and parking habits accordingly. Stay informed, follow the new signs, and avoid those fines. Safe driving, Belfast!
