Temporary Traffic Restrictions on A4060 in Merthyr Tydfil
What’s Happening?
From June 1, 2025, the Welsh Government will be implementing a temporary traffic order on the A4060, stretching from the Abercannaid Roundabout on the A470 to the Pentre-bach Roundabout in Merthyr Tydfil. This is to facilitate necessary roadworks.
Key Details:
- Start Date: June 1, 2025
- Duration: Up to 18 months
- Affected Area: A4060 between Abercannaid Roundabout and Pentre-bach Roundabout
Restrictions:
-
No Vehicle Access: During the work period, no vehicles, except those involved in the roadworks, will be allowed on this section of the A4060.
-
No Cycling: Cyclists are also prohibited from using this stretch during the specified period.
-
Speed Limit: A temporary speed limit of 30 mph will be enforced.
Exemptions:
- Certain vehicles, including those used for military purposes or emergency responses, may be exempt from these restrictions.
Diversions:
-
Northbound and Southbound Traffic on A470: Diverted north to Cefn Coed Interchange, then east to rejoin A4060 south via Dowlais Top Interchange on the A465.
-
Southbound Traffic on Pentre-bach Roundabout (A4060): Diverted north to Dowlais Top Interchange, then west along the A465 to rejoin the A470 at Cefn Coed Interchange.
-
A465 Traffic Heading to A470 South: Diverted west to Cefn Coed Interchange to rejoin the A470.
Why the Change?
The Welsh Government, responsible for the A4060, has determined these measures are necessary due to planned roadworks. The restrictions are designed to ensure safety and facilitate the smooth progress of the work.
What to Expect:
Traffic signs will be updated to reflect the new restrictions, and motorists should remain vigilant for these changes. The temporary measures will be lifted once the roadwork signs are permanently removed.
Stay informed and plan your journeys accordingly to avoid disruptions.
