30 May 2025 at 7:25 am (Europe/London)

The Welsh Government has announced a temporary traffic order affecting a section of the M4 motorway between Junction 37 (Pyle Interchange) and Junction 38 (Margam Interchange) in Bridgend County Borough. This is due to essential roadworks planned for the area. Here's a breakdown of what to expect from June 2, 2025.

Key Details:

  • Order Initiation: The traffic order comes into effect on June 2, 2025.
  • Duration: The restrictions will be in place for up to 18 months, though they may conclude earlier if the works are completed sooner.

Restrictions Overview:

  1. Traffic Restrictions:

    • During the works, vehicles (except exempt ones) will be prohibited from accessing certain westbound and eastbound lanes of the motorway.
    • Specific lanes will have reduced speed limits of 50, 40, or 30 mph, depending on the section.
  2. Overtaking Ban:

    • Overtaking will be prohibited in designated areas to ensure safety during the works.
  3. Alternative Routes:

    • Westbound traffic is advised to exit at Junction 37, follow the A4229, join the A48 at Pyle, and rejoin the M4 at Junction 38.
    • The reverse route applies for eastbound traffic.
  4. Use of Hard Shoulder:

    • The hard shoulder may be temporarily used as a traffic lane in some areas to accommodate the flow of vehicles.

Exemptions:

  • Emergency service vehicles and military vehicles are exempt from these restrictions.

Signage:

  • Traffic signs will be used to indicate when and where specific restrictions are in place.

These measures are put in place to ensure the safety of both road workers and motorists while essential maintenance and improvements are carried out. Motorists are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and follow all signage and instructions.
