Starting from March 1, 2025, expect significant changes on the trunk roads across South West Scotland, affecting your daily commutes and travel plans. The Scottish Government has issued a temporary order to facilitate crucial roadworks, bringing in various prohibitions and speed restrictions that will last until June 1, 2025. Here's what you need to know:

Road Closures:

• Certain sections of the trunk roads will be temporarily closed. These closures are marked by specific traffic signs, so keep an eye out for them to avoid disruptions.

No Overtaking Zones:

• Overtaking is prohibited on some parts of the affected roads to ensure safe travel during the roadworks. Look out for 'No Overtaking' signs along your route.

Speed Restrictions:

• Speed limits are being adjusted across various stretches of the roads. The new limits range from 30 mph to 50 mph, depending on the area. Make sure to adhere to these limits, which are clearly indicated by traffic signs.

Exemptions:

• Emergency vehicles such as fire brigade, ambulance, and police, as well as vehicles involved in carrying out the roadworks, are exempt from these prohibitions and speed limits.

• The M8/A8/A8(M) Edinburgh - Greenock Trunk Road has numerous sections with adjusted speed limits and road closures, particularly around major junctions.
• The M74/A74(M) Glasgow - Carlisle Trunk Road and the M77/A77 Glasgow - Stranraer Trunk Road also have significant stretches with new speed restrictions.
