Date Announced: February 21, 2025
Effective Date: March 2, 2025

If you're planning to travel on the A5 in North Wales, here's what you need to know. The Welsh Ministers have issued a temporary road closure for a section of the A5 to accommodate the Anglesey Half Marathon and 10K Race. This closure is aimed at ensuring the safety of participants and is backed by the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Closure Details:

  • Route Affected: The A5 trunk road from the Holyhead Road Roundabout (near Antelope Inn), Bangor, Gwynedd to the Mona Road Roundabout (Anglesey Arms), Menai Bridge, Anglesey.
  • Event Period: The closure will start at 8:30 AM on March 2, 2025, and will last until the temporary traffic signs are removed.
  • Duration: The order is valid for one day only.

Who Can Access the Road?

  • Exemptions are in place for:
    • Emergency service vehicles (police, fire, ambulance)
    • Vehicles involved in road works, traffic light/sign maintenance, or urgent utility repairs (sewage, gas, water, electricity, telecommunications)
    • Authorized event officials for safety and support

Important to Note:

  • The prohibitions on driving and cycling will only be enforced where temporary traffic signs indicate.
  • Cyclists are also restricted from using the closed section during the event.

Plan your journey accordingly and be prepared for potential delays or detours. Stay tuned for updates on when the road will reopen once the event concludes.
