Attention drivers in North West Scotland! The Scottish Government has announced a new set of temporary traffic regulations that will affect several trunk roads across the region. These changes are being implemented to facilitate essential roadworks and ensure the safety of all road users. Here's what you need to know:

Key Changes:

  • Date of Enforcement: These regulations will be in effect from 1st August 2025 and will last until 1st November 2025.

  • Prohibition on Road Use: Certain roads or parts of roads will be closed to all vehicles. Signs will be posted to indicate these closures, so be on the lookout for them.

  • No Overtaking Zones: Overtaking will be prohibited on specific stretches of road. Again, these areas will be clearly marked with traffic signs.

  • Speed Restrictions: New speed limits will be enforced on several roads. In some areas, speeds will be limited to either 50 mph or 40 mph, while in many others, a 30 mph limit will be applied. These restrictions are crucial for safety during roadworks.

Affected Routes:

  • A85 Tyndrum – Oban Trunk Road: Expect closures and restrictions from Corran Esplanade to Argyll Square Roundabout in Oban.

  • M9/A9 Edinburgh – Stirling – Thurso Trunk Road: Multiple sections will see speed limits reduced to 50 mph or 40 mph, particularly around Perth and Luncarty, and other parts as detailed in the full schedule.

  • A82 Dalnottar – Inverness Trunk Road, A83 Tarbet – Campbeltown Trunk Road, and other key routes: These roads will have a new temporary speed limit of 30 mph in various segments.

Exemptions:

Emergency vehicles, including those used by the fire brigade, ambulance, police, and coastguard, are exempt from these restrictions. Vehicles involved directly in the roadworks are also exempt.

Stay Informed:

  • Traffic Signs: All changes will be clearly marked with appropriate traffic signs. Pay close attention to these to ensure compliance.

  • Plan Ahead: With these changes, it's advisable to plan your journeys in advance. Consider alternative routes to avoid delays.

These measures are essential to facilitate road improvements and ensure safety. Compliance is mandatory, and enforcement will be in place to ensure adherence to these temporary regulations.
