
No-Fly Zone Alert: Castle of Mey Under Temporary Flight Restrictions
Attention all aviators and residents in the Highlands - a new no-fly zone is coming into effect over the Castle of Mey. Starting from 2301 hours on July 21, 2025, until 2259 hours on August 15, 2025, aircraft are prohibited from flying below 4,000 feet above mean sea level within a one nautical mile radius centered at the coordinates 583849N 0031329W. This security measure has been implemented to enhance the safety of the Royal residence in the area.
Who Can Still Fly?
While these restrictions are strict, there are specific exceptions. Aircraft may operate under these conditions if they have permission from either:
- Police Scotland Royalty and VIP Planning North Unit
- Metropolitan Police, Royalty and Specialist Protection
Additionally, the following are exempt from these restrictions:
- Police Air Support Units
- Helicopter Emergency Medical Services
- Maritime and Coastguard Agency aircraft conducting search and rescue operations
- The King's Helicopter Flight
- Aircraft carrying members of the Royal Family
Furthermore, any aircraft landing in the grounds of the Castle of Mey by invitation must notify the relevant police units beforehand.
