Fly High but Stay Safe: New Regulations for Swanseas Sky Spectacle
Attention aviation enthusiasts and Swansea residents: mark your calendars for an exciting aerial event this July! However, there are some important details you need to know about new flying restrictions in the area.
What's Happening?
The skies above Swansea will host a thrilling airshow on the 5th and 6th of July 2025. To ensure safety during this high-energy event, the UK government has issued temporary flying restrictions.
Key Details:
-
Dates and Times: The restriction is active from 11:00 to 17:00 UTC (that's 12:00 to 18:00 in local British Summer Time) on both days.
-
Restricted Area: No aircraft is allowed to fly below 8,000 feet above mean sea level within a specific area around Swansea. This area is defined by specific GPS coordinates, forming a rectangle across the sky.
-
Exceptions: Certain flights are exempt, including those with permission from the Wales Airshow director, police air support units, emergency medical services, and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency.
Why the Restrictions?
The restrictions are in place to ensure public safety due to the complex and high-energy manoeuvres performed by a large number of aircraft during the airshow. The Civil Aviation Authority and the Department for Transport have deemed these precautions necessary.
Need More Information?
For those needing to navigate the airspace or seeking permission, contact the Wales Airshow flying director. Further details are also available via Aeronautical Information Circulars (AIC) and Notices to Airmen (NOTAM). If you have questions about the regulations, you can reach out to Mr. Alan Frew, Airspace Regulator at the Civil Aviation Authority, at 03301 382734.
Stay informed, stay safe, and enjoy the show!
