Attention Aviators: Flying Restrictions Over RAF Coningsby This July
If you're planning to take to the skies over Lincolnshire this summer, take note! The UK government has announced temporary airspace restrictions around Royal Air Force Coningsby for a special event. Here's what you need to know:
Key Details
- Event Date: 25th July 2025
- Restricted Hours: 10:30 AM to 4:00 PM (UTC) - Note: This is 11:30 AM to 5:00 PM in British Summer Time (BST).
- Restricted Area: A 3-nautical mile radius centered at coordinates 530534N 0001048W.
- Altitude Limit: No flying below 3,000 feet above mean sea level within the restricted zone.
Why the Restrictions?
The restrictions are in place due to a high-energy flying display scheduled at RAF Coningsby. With numerous aircraft performing complex maneuvers, the Civil Aviation Authority and the Department for Transport have deemed these measures necessary to ensure public safety.
Exceptions to the Rule
Certain aircraft are exempt from these restrictions, including:
- Aircraft operated by or on behalf of Police Air Support Units, Emergency Medical Services, and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency.
- Aircraft with explicit permission from the RAF Coningsby Air Display's flying display director.
What's Next?
Full details will be circulated through the Aeronautical Information Circular (AIC) and Notices to Aviation (NOTAM).
For further queries, contact Mr. Alan Frew, Airspace Regulator, Safety and Airspace Regulation Group at the Civil Aviation Authority, via phone at 03301 382734.
Stay informed, stay safe, and enjoy the display responsibly!
