Coming Soon: Changes to Loading Bays on Key Roads

The Department for Infrastructure has announced new changes affecting loading bays in Derry/Londonderry, set to take effect from 8th October 2025. This update is part of the Loading Bays on Roads (Amendment) Order (Northern Ireland) 2025, aiming to streamline parking and loading access on selected roads in the city.

What's Changing?

Two new loading bay areas are being introduced:

  1. Kennedy Place (South-East Side): This loading bay stretches 9 metres in a south-westerly direction, starting 15 metres from its junction with Hawkin Street. It will be available for use at all hours, every day of the week.

  2. The Diamond (East Side): Situated 8.5 metres south of its junction with Shipquay Street, this bay extends 13 metres in a southerly direction. It will operate from 8:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Monday to Saturday.

Why This Matters

These additions are designed to provide more convenient parking options for vehicles that need to load and unload goods, reducing congestion and improving traffic flow. The Department consulted with stakeholders and published public notices, but no objections were received, paving the way for these changes.

Penalties for Non-Compliance

Be aware: breaching these new loading bay regulations could result in a penalty charge of £90, as per the Traffic Management (Northern Ireland) Order 2005. Appropriate signage will be installed to ensure drivers are informed of the new rules.

Stay Informed

For businesses and drivers frequenting these areas, it's crucial to familiarize yourself with the new loading bay locations and operating hours to avoid penalties and contribute to smoother traffic management in Derry/Londonderry.
