Date Alert: October 2, 2025

Attention aviation enthusiasts and local residents: major flying restrictions are set to take place in the skies above Royal Air Force Brize Norton in Oxfordshire due to an exciting air display event. Here’s what you need to know about these changes and why they're happening.

Why the Restrictions?

The UK Government has announced these temporary flight restrictions to ensure public safety during a series of thrilling aerial displays scheduled for October 2, 2025. The event promises high-energy manoeuvres by various aircraft, necessitating a clear airspace to prevent any mishaps.

When and Where

  • Date and Time: The airspace restrictions will be in place from 11:15 AM to 12:15 PM (Coordinated Universal Time - UTC), which is 12:15 PM to 1:15 PM British Summer Time (BST).
  • Location: A no-fly zone will be enforced in an area with a 6-nautical-mile radius centered at coordinates 51°45'11"N 001°34'00"W, which surrounds RAF Brize Norton.

Who is Affected?

During this one-hour window, no aircraft is permitted to fly below Flight Level 85 within the specified area unless they have special clearance. Exceptions include:

  • Aircraft with clearance from the RAF Terminal Air Traffic Control Centre South.
  • Aircraft with special permission from the RAF Brize Norton Flying Display Director.
  • Aircraft operated by Police Air Support Units or Emergency Medical Services.

Why It's Important

The decision to impose these restrictions stems from a collaborative agreement between the Civil Aviation Authority and the Department for Transport, focusing on public safety and the seamless execution of the aerial display.
