Attention, Aviators and Ayr Show Enthusiasts: Key Flying Restrictions Announced for September 2025!
Get ready, aviation fans! The skies over Ayr are set for a spectacular showcase this September as the 2025 International Ayr Show, Festival of Flight, prepares to take off. But before you grab your binoculars and head out, there's crucial airspace information you need to know.
What's Happening? On the 5th and 6th of September 2025, Ayr will host a remarkable flying display event. To ensure the safety of both participants and spectators, the UK government has instituted temporary airspace restrictions around the area.
When and Where are the Restrictions?
- Dates and Times:
- 5th September: From 1:00 PM to 7:39 PM UTC (2:00 PM to 8:39 PM BST)
- 6th September: From 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM UTC (1:00 PM to 7:00 PM BST)
- Restricted Airspace: A circle with a 4-nautical-mile radius centered at coordinates 552720N 0043840W, up to 6,000 feet above sea level.
Who Can Fly? Don't worry if you're part of essential services or have special permission:
- Exemptions are in place for aircraft from Police Air Support, Emergency Medical Services, and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency conducting search and rescue operations.
- Flights approaching or departing from Glasgow Prestwick Airport under air traffic control guidance are also exempt.
- If you've got the nod from the Festival of Flight's Flying Display Director, you're clear to soar!
Why the Restrictions? With thousands expected to attend, these measures ensure public safety and security, a top priority for the Civil Aviation Authority and the Department for Transport.
Need More Info? For pilots and flight planners, full details will be available through an Aeronautical Information Circular (AIC) and Notice to Aviation (NOTAM). For additional queries, Mr. Alan Frew, Airspace Regulator, is your go-to at the Civil Aviation Authority. Reach out to him at 03301 382734.
So, whether you're flying a plane or simply watching from the ground, stay informed and enjoy the show!
