Heads Up, Drivers! Major Road Closures on M6 and M42 Motorways

25 June 2025 at 3:03 am (Europe/London)

The UK Department for Transport has announced significant temporary road closures affecting the M6 Toll and M42 motorways. If you're planning to travel in the Warwickshire and Staffordshire areas, here's what you need to know.

What’s Happening? Starting from 9 PM on June 28, 2025, until just before midnight on December 23, 2025, certain sections of the M6 Toll Motorway will be closed. This is part of a major roadworks project aimed at improving the motorway infrastructure.

Which Sections Are Affected?

  • The First Length: This involves both the northbound and southbound lanes of the M6 Toll, stretching from Junction T1 at Curdworth to Junction 11a at Great Saredon.
  • The Second Length: This affects the stretch between the M42 at Junction 9, Curdworth, and Junction 11a on the M6, in both directions.
  • The Third Length: This section includes the northbound lanes from M6 Junction 3a through to a point near the M42 overbridge at Coleshill and the southbound lanes from Junction 11a to Junction 3a.

Who Can Still Use These Roads? The closures will not apply to:

  • Emergency services (police, ambulance, fire, and rescue)
  • Vehicles directed by a police officer
  • Vehicles involved in the actual roadworks
  • Traffic officers in uniform
  • Winter maintenance vehicles

What About Traffic Signs? Traffic signs will guide the implementation of these restrictions. Make sure to follow them closely to avoid any disruptions.

Why the Change? This temporary order replaces a previous one, ensuring the roadworks proceed smoothly and with minimal disruption.

Plan Ahead! Given the potential for traffic build-up and delays, consider alternative routes or modes of transport during this period. Stay informed by checking the latest updates from the Department for Transport.

Keep this information handy, share it with fellow commuters, and plan your journey accordingly to avoid any inconveniences during this extensive road improvement project. Safe travels!
