
Heads Up: Drone Flights Restricted in Lancaster During Upcoming Royal Visit
Attention drone enthusiasts and operators in Lancaster! New regulations are set to take effect, temporarily restricting the flying of unmanned aircraft in the area due to a Royal visit. Here’s what you need to know:
When and Where?
- Date: 9th June 2025
- Time: From 0700 to 1600 (UTC), which means 0800 to 1700 in British Summer Time (BST).
- Area: A circle with a radius of 1.5 nautical miles, centered at coordinates 54°03'00"N 002°48'20"W.
What’s the Rule? During this timeframe, no drones are allowed to fly below 1,400 feet above mean sea level within the specified area. The restriction is put in place to ensure public safety and security during the Royal visit.
Exceptions:
- This restriction does not apply to drones already prohibited by existing regulations concerning prisons and young offenders’ institutions.
- If you have special permission from Lancashire Police, you can still fly your drone.
Getting Permission: If you believe your drone flight is essential, contact Lancashire Police to discuss obtaining permission.
Why the Restrictions? The Civil Aviation Authority and the Department for Transport have agreed that these measures are necessary to maintain safety and security during the visit.
