Get Ready for Road Changes in North East Scotland: What You Need to Know
Starting September 1, 2025, motorists in North East Scotland should prepare for some significant changes to their usual routes. The Scottish Ministers have issued a new order impacting several trunk roads due to essential roadworks, set to last until December 1, 2025. Here's a breakdown of what to expect:
Key Changes and Restrictions:
-
Road Closures: Certain sections of the M90/A90/A9000 Edinburgh to Fraserburgh Trunk Road will be temporarily closed. Look out for traffic signs indicating these closures and plan your journeys accordingly.
-
No Overtaking Zones: To ensure safety during these works, overtaking will be prohibited on specified road sections. This restriction does not apply to bicycles, motorcycles, and tricycles, but all motor vehicles must comply.
-
Speed Limit Adjustments: New temporary speed limits will be in place across various road sections:
- 50 mph Zones: These include stretches from Barnhill Interchange in Perth to Inchmichael Grade Separated Interchange, and from Luthermuir to Glasslaw Junction.
- 30 mph Zones: Slower speed limits will be enforced in areas like the Kinfauns Grade Separated Junction and the Glencarse Grade Separated Junction, among others.
-
Convoy Systems: In some areas, convoy working will be implemented, requiring vehicles to follow an escort through roadworks. This will be indicated by specific traffic signs.
Exemptions:
Certain vehicles are exempt from these restrictions, including emergency service vehicles (fire brigade, ambulance, police, and coastguard) and vehicles involved directly with the roadworks.
Plan Your Journey:
- Alternative Routes: Authorities have considered alternative routes to minimize disruption. Ensure to check these before setting off.
- Stay Informed: Keep an eye on local traffic updates and road signs for the latest information on closures and restrictions.
By adhering to these temporary measures, drivers can contribute to a safer and more efficient roadwork process, ultimately leading to improved infrastructure in the region. Safe travels!
